Issues & Solutions

  • Increase Service and Cleaning crews to disinfect at least the top 10 bus and train routes during pauses in their runs (like Civic Center and Union Stations for Mall buses, or rail stations like Nine Mile) to ramp up action against transmission of the Coronavirus

  • Allow for rear boarding of buses for more social distancing

  • More protective equipment and desanitizer for bus drivers and train operators

  • Reduce the price of fares, and eliminate them for the most vulnerable in the community

  • Hiring many more bus drivers and train operators.

  • Retaining the bus drivers and train operators so they don’t leave RTD

  • Have a game plan to restore routes which have been cut or eliminated

  • Expand the relationships between RTD and businesses like restaurants to increase locations they can take breaks and use the restroom

  • Eliminate required overtime for drivers

  • Have more awards and recognitions to thank bus drivers and train operators for their work, promoting them on social media

  • Ensure that the RTD does greater outreach and is more responsive to disadvantaged communities

  • Advocate for people with disabilities so they have problem-free access to the system and that any issues are corrected immediately

  • Increase communication and awareness among riders so they know when their bus, train, or Access-a-Ride will arrive

  • Create conflict resolution outreach liaisons to reduce arguments on some bus routes

  • Improve relationships between Board members, and between Board members and the Interim General Manager

  • Hire a permanent General Manager who is bold, visionary, and deeply understands the needs of the Denver Metro region

  • Engage the state legislature to discuss any possible structural changes to the RTD Board and RTD itself

  • Have a permanent “Reimagine RTD” process so the public can give feedback on an ongoing basis to spark improvements

  • Lobby Congress to obtain funds to build out and operate the entire RTD rail and bus system

  • Explore how RTD can be an integral part of an entire high speed rail and transit system along the Front Range and to the mountains
